My intention in creating this work was to use non-conventional materials to explore line and mark making, demonstrating the act of drawing as a process rather than a medium. Therefore, I was not constructing an object and did not start with a vision of the end result. The formation of a continuous line through the process of cutting around a rectangle of black construction paper until it was exhausted was intended to give the work its meaning.

I also wanted the process of the making to be evident - there was to be nothing hidden from the viewer. The use of such base materials as masking tape, staples, construction paper and drafting film provides an honesty in the work.

There is no right way to view this work - no top or bottom, front or back. The viewer can decide.

The first work on this page was a finalist in the Parkin Drawing Prize, 2018.
